Commercial Diving Academy was established in 1995, in Gulf Shores, Alabama, in order to provide training and employable skills in the profession of commercial diving. The school was established by Captain Ray Black in answer to the need for highly trained entry level commercial diver and the rare-existence of schools of this type. Commercial Diving Academy is the realization of his dream of sharing his over 20 years of experience and training with others. Captain Black was born in Alaska and dedicated his life to working with the diving industry for almost two decades. He has been associated with worldwide commercial diving companies.
The school was relocated to our current location in Jacksonville, Florida in 2001. This move accommodated our growth and expansion to provide on-campus housing, a full cafeteria, direct waterfront access and multiple offices and classrooms. In 2009, Commercial Diving Academy earned accreditation from the Diver Certification Board of Canada to offer an internationally-recognized diver certification.
In June 2010, the school added the Maritime Welding Program in answer to a local industry demand for topside welders with specific skills and knowledge of the maritime industry. With our commitment to improve and develop associated programs, additional programs were added, which initiated the school’s name change to CDA Technical Institute.

The long-range mission of the institution is to provide a basis for life-long learning on the part of its graduates leading to employment. Graduates must be able to assess their own needs in terms of technological equipment and training to meet the needs of an ever changing world. A current change that is likely to continue for the foreseeable future is the country’s move from a manufacturing to a service economy. Along with this change, there is a strong interest on the part of many young people in entrepreneurship. These specific societal changes prompt the school’s desire to meet those needs by strengthening the curriculum available to its graduates by offering a program which includes management topics in its basic curriculum. Beauty is a service industry, and those who are trained in its diverse aspects are ensured long-term and profitable employment. There is an already strong and highly efficient placement assistance program at BCSBC and its rate of success can only increase as the school continues to certify graduates with expertise in all levels of the business of beauty culture.
Spa Luna’s mission in esthetics and massage therapy is to ensure, for all students, an excellent education, concentrating on their spiritual development, while also providing the qualities of professionalism, integrity and competence in a safe and supportive environment, so our graduates will succeed and contribute responsibility in their professions.
